LEGO sets are usually associated with children’s rooms. This one was built for adult fans of the series and collectors. LEGO Ideas The X-Files, set number 21369, recreates Fox Mulder’s office and the scene of the aliens’ arrival. The original design came from a fan who entered it in the LEGO Ideas ’90s Nostalgia Challenge, and a fan vote decided it would go into production. The set includes 1,478 pieces and eight minifigures. Assembled, the model stands 30 cm (11.8 in) tall and measures 23 cm (9 in) wide and deep.
The set fans picked
The idea came from a fan of the brand, who submitted it to the LEGO Ideas ’90s Nostalgia Challenge, a contest built around the pop culture of the decade. Fans then voted on which design would go into production. The winning entry was developed by the LEGO Group into a set aimed at adult fans of the series and collectors.
The box contains two scenes. The first recreates Fox Mulder’s office, the second shows the aliens arriving in a forest. They can be displayed together or separately. The set contains 1,478 pieces, and once built it stands 30 cm (11.8 in) tall and measures 23 cm (9 in) wide and deep.
An office that comes apart
Mulder’s office was recreated with the details viewers know from the show. LEGO also promises a few surprises for fans, including the “I Want to Believe” poster. The section with the desk detaches from the rest of the office, making the interior easier to see.
The second scene shows a forest with a UFO hovering above it. The craft sits on a clear support, which makes it look like it is hanging in mid-air. The forest section can be displayed on its own, without Mulder’s office.
Eight minifigures and a digital manual
The set includes eight minifigures: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, Flukeman and a grey alien. The set also includes a frog and a bee. The figures can be placed inside the office or attached to the outside of the building.
The instructions are available in the LEGO Builder app, where the model can be rotated in 3D, zoomed in on and followed step by step. Progress can also be saved in the app and resumed later.
