An open doorway overlooking an imagined cityscape has appeared on the wall of an apartment building at Niedziałkowskiego 1 in Poznań. The mural was initiated by Reforma Nieruchomości and painted by MUR.ALL, with a female figure shown stepping across the threshold.
An invitation to another world
Beyond the open doors are steps, narrow streets in warm light and the outlines of historic buildings. A woman is crossing the threshold, as though leading the way towards something yet to be discovered. The scene does not reproduce a particular place in Poznań: it is an allegorical composition that leaves room for different interpretations.

‘We wanted to create something that would make people pause. Something that would make them look differently at a place they might pass every day. This mural is our story about buildings with a history, about spaces that hold secrets and are waiting for someone to restore them to their former glory,’ explains Alicja Pińkowska of Reforma Nieruchomości.
Art within the city
The location was chosen deliberately. The area around Stary Browar, beside Park Drwęskich, is a lively part of Poznań with cultural activity and green space. The wall has a history of murals, having previously carried temporary commercial advertisements. The new painting gives the setting a sense of depth and visually completes a street frontage damaged during the war.
MUR.ALL adapted the design to its setting. Architectural details, light and shadow, and steps receding into the distance encourage passers-by to stop and look more closely.

Room for individual interpretations
‘We did not want to create a historical reproduction. We wanted the mural to be an invitation to a world that values what came before. Every viewer can find their own story in it,’ adds Pińkowska.

Some viewers may be drawn to the architectural details and the history suggested by the buildings’ outlines. Others may see a symbolic step into the unknown, with the promise of discovering something special around the corner. The mural at Niedziałkowskiego has become another place to encounter art in Poznań.
