They were brought together by a shared approach to design, a passion for minimalism and an interest in furniture design. They achieved their first joint successes whilst still studying interior design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. Their graduation project, presented at a trade fair in Milan, marked the beginning of a long-standing collaboration. The three of them – Maja Górowska, Karolina Koryniowska and Kamila Potocka – now run their own design studio, Madde Studio, specialising in residential and public interiors, as well as furniture.
Unique materials, diverse features – interiors that surprise
Madde Studio, which has been operating since 2018, has a portfolio of projects of varying nature and scale. The interior architects are constantly taking on new challenges, creating spaces with a variety of functions. Their portfolio includes holiday homes, retail premises and business premises. One project particularly worth highlighting is the studio’s latest commercial project: an office created by combining three residential units. The final result will be revealed very soon…
The trio of Koryniowska, Potocka and Górowska have also repeatedly developed designs for hospitality venues. One of the most interesting is Bistro Zagajnik in Radomsko, realised entirely in accordance with the original concept thanks to the trust placed in them by the investors. The interior is distinguished by its use of construction blocks. This raw material, combined with an abundance of living greenery and details that animate the interplay of light and shadow, has made it possible to create a space that is unquestionably memorable.
Madde Studio – specialists in historic architecture
When asked about their greatest design challenges, the architects at Madde Studio also point to their private projects. Each of them has undertaken the renovation of her own flat in a tenement building. Today, Karolina, Kamila and Maja share the experience they have gained in working with the historic fabric of older buildings, preparing an e-book on the renovation of tenement houses. One may confidently say that this field has now become a particular speciality of Madde Studio.
What values and outlook guide your design work? What are your priorities in creating interior designs?
In our design approach, we value timeless solutions that make use of natural materials. We are not advocates of impulsively following trends. In our projects, we seek balance, strong composition, and quality.
In the case of private interiors, we appreciate designs that deliberately leave certain elements open to interpretation. It is important to us to leave room for growth and for the space to be shaped over time by objects that carry value and meaning for the occupants.
In the design of commercial interiors, we focus on building a coherent brand identity. We are particularly keen to undertake projects that allow us to develop a comprehensive concept for a place, including its name and visual identity.
Do you have a favourite interior design style? If so, what kind?
Most of our projects can be described as a broadly understood minimalism – though not in its extreme form, but rather in a warm, homely interpretation. We often combine raw structures with natural wood. We like to complement them with art and vintage furniture, as we value timeless design in products. At times, we introduce colour as an accent, but we decidedly avoid interiors that feel overloaded.
What materials and technologies do you most like to use in your projects?
Natural materials are key – we use clay plasters, wood, natural fabrics, and microcement. We strive to base our designs on materials that will stand the test of time. We also have experience in designing interiors constructed using CLT technology and prefabricated elements.
What are your experiences of working with clients? What do you think is the key to a successful collaboration?
Complete trust, attentive listening to the client’s needs, and openness on their part to our ideas and solutions are essential. Honest communication, grounded in mutual respect, is key.
Can you tell us about the most interesting project you have worked on?
The Studzienno27 rental cottages project was a long process. It was the first time we designed interiors based on CLT construction technology, and we maintained excellent communication with the client at every stage. We also managed to incorporate numerous second-hand furnishings into the interiors, which we sourced ourselves from online auction platforms and antique markets.
Do you offer a consultation service?
Yes, as we see a strong demand for it. Sometimes clients come to us to consult on spatial layouts; at other times, they seek guidance on selecting an appropriate colour palette, or wish to discuss technical matters – in each of these cases, we provide support drawing on our knowledge and experience.
