Polish manufacturer ERKADO unveiled ICONIC, its own collection of internal doors, at Warsaw Home at Ptak Warsaw Expo on 21 October 2026. Bringing together architecture and art, a timeless aesthetic and precision manufacturing, the range explores the potential of doors to become design icons.
Doors conceived as design icons
As design trends change almost from one season to the next, objects conceived to last beyond them are gaining in value. Their appeal lies in carefully judged proportions, considered use of materials and refined details, rather than elaborate decoration. This thinking underpins ICONIC, which takes a fresh look at an everyday yet often overlooked element of interior architecture.
The starting point was the belief that doors deserve the same design attention as furniture, lighting and architectural features. ‘We have designed doors that we want people to copy. Because that is how icons are born,’ says ERKADO. The statement marks a new chapter in the brand’s approach: ICONIC is conceived as a design philosophy as well as a product range, with form emerging from construction and rhythm, proportion, light and detail serving as its principal means of expression.
Eight approaches to contemporary design
ICONIC comprises eight distinct design concepts: seven door families and a system of decorative door surrounds developed by ERKADO. Each has its own story, but all share a design language grounded in architectural discipline, considered geometry and the pursuit of beauty through simplicity.
PULSAR features an ornament formed where several planes intersect. Gentle curves and precisely detailed joints create a feature whose appearance changes with the light and the choice of material.
KUMIKO focuses on rhythm and proportion. Repeated modules and rounded panels form a balanced composition in which order itself becomes the main decorative element.
SLIT explores the aesthetic potential of a gap. Five-millimetre spaces between its components form pronounced black lines, giving the door leaf depth and a graphic quality.
BLUR draws on Streamline Moderne. Soft lines and distinctive glazing gently blur the boundaries between rooms, allowing light to help shape the atmosphere of the interior.
NAVAT highlights details that usually remain hidden: the points where materials meet and the precision of the divisions between them. Its geometric composition, marked by a rectangular detail, shows that a strong design need not rely on elaborate ornament.
FLASK uses the minimal vocabulary of points and lines. Two circular ornaments provide a subtle accent, giving the simple door leaf a recognisable identity.
GRID reinterprets the traditional frame motif. Rounded profiles and recessed black gaps produce a sense of depth that shifts with the lighting.
AURA completes the collection with three decorative profiles designed to fit a standard door frame. The range shifts attention from the door leaf to its architectural surround, demonstrating how the treatment of an opening can influence the way a space is perceived. Each design has its own character without seeking to dominate the room; the doors are intended to become an integral, carefully considered part of the interior.
Finishes and configurations for different interiors
Alongside its distinctive designs, ICONIC offers extensive scope for personalisation. The collection uses carefully selected materials and finishes, from solid colours in cashmere, sage, stone grey and anthracite to wood-effect decors. Selected models also offer a choice of glazing, mirrors and decorative infill panels. Depending on the model, finishes include scratch- and fingerprint-resistant ST CPL surfaces, wood-effect options and UV-cured lacquer.
Technical features address the needs of both users and designers. Rebated and non-rebated versions, a range of door leaf dimensions, features that simplify installation and carefully developed hardware systems bring the collection’s design ambitions into everyday use. It is intended for interiors where details matter, from private flats to carefully designed commercial spaces.
Three ambassadors with different perspectives
The launch is accompanied by a collaboration with three ambassadors representing different approaches to contemporary interior architecture. Monika Staniec, an interior architect based in Wrocław, brings experience in designing spaces that reconcile aesthetics with people’s everyday needs.
Monika Sałata, an architect specialising in commercial interiors, represents spaces where design shapes both the atmosphere and the identity of a place. Dr Aleksandra Lepka, an interior designer with a doctorate in art who also lectures at an academy of fine arts, approaches the collaboration through art, composition and the considered development of form.
Their professional backgrounds and aesthetic sensibilities differ, but all three share the belief that good design extends beyond passing trends. Their involvement underlines ICONIC’s ambition to inspire architects and interior designers as well as private customers. Dialogue between the manufacturer and design professionals is an important part of the launch.
