Architects Magdalena Moc-Kwiecień and Mateusz Moc of Mocna Pracownia have designed a 50-square-metre rental flat in Kraków around arches, rounded forms and shades of green. The project draws on decometry, an emerging trend in Poland that experiments with proportions and shapes to create a fresh, unexpected sense of harmony. A returning client’s willingness to try something different gave the architects scope to explore this approach.
A rental flat with its own identity
The owner has commissioned the duo to design rental flats for many years. Mutual trust and her openness to new ideas have allowed each project to take a different stylistic direction. Their originality sets them apart in the rental market, attracting equally open-minded, enthusiastic tenants.

This flat occupies a well-connected part of Kraków, relatively close to the Old Town, with large windows that admit plenty of daylight. Its layout comprises an open-plan living area with a balcony, a separate bedroom and a bathroom. Shades of green run through every room, chosen by the owner as one of her favourite colours. The restrained palette allows the interplay of forms and proportions to stand out.
Arches and rounded forms
Still relatively new, decometry is gradually gaining a following among both designers and clients. Its fresh approach to proportion encourages experiments with form in search of a different kind of harmony. Inspired by this aesthetic, Magdalena Moc-Kwiecień and Mateusz Moc revisited the long-neglected arch, using rounded shapes with renewed energy.

The living area features kitchen cabinets with matt fronts from Rehau. A distinctive ceiling-level pelmet neatly conceals the curtain track and lighting. In the bedroom, arches appear as a decorative motif on Archi Di Palma wallpaper from Walltime. Rounded forms recur in the headboard, seating, bathroom vanity tops, mirrors and tables, establishing a sense of harmony throughout the flat.
Textures and carefully chosen details
Mocna Pracownia’s design combines an airy, playful quality with understated elegance through carefully selected textures and high-quality finishes. Mouldings and decorative wall panels from Orac Decor nod to classical interiors. Terrazzo-effect Italgraniti Nuances tiles appear in two versions: a subdued version in the kitchen and a bolder one in the bathroom’s shower area.

An Oxyled light fitting and elegant white bathroom brassware from Excellent Pi provide the finishing touches to the unusual forms, colours and textures. Experimenting with new trends in a rental flat might seem risky, but the result makes that risk worthwhile. Here, decometry proves a successful choice, offering a fresh approach to the Polish rental market.
