Since 2000, she has been running her own studio, creating interior designs for private and public spaces, as well as comprehensive turnkey interior design projects, such as the transformation of the Radisson Blu hotel in Szczecin. A seeker of innovation, creator of new standards and professional – Anna Buczny
Although as a student she worked in Szczecin design offices, creating concepts for the arrangement of public buildings and private interiors, she always knew that her goal was to have her own studio. Wanting to be a leader, set high standards and follow bold directions, Anna Buczny founded her studio two years after graduating from the Szczecin University of Technology. The knowledge she gained at university was the foundation for her design work, while her father served as a model for building her own brand – a man who was creative in his work, tirelessly sought innovative solutions and always cared about professionalism.
From her very first professional steps, Anna Buczny was guided by similar values and eagerly took on unconventional challenges. At the turn of the century, she became an ambassador for the Corian brand. As part of this collaboration, she created a collection of functional forms presented at international trade fairs, among which the most recognisable was the artistic Alba Regia washbasin. Today, with 25 years of experience and many original projects under her belt, Anna Buczny continues to spur her own creativity with new tasks and sees her work as a process of ongoing development.
What values and outlook guide your design work? What are your priorities in creating interior designs?
My philosophy in design work grows out of the belief that interiors have the power to shape everyday experiences and emotions, and affect our mental health. The spaces I create are designed to tell the story of their residents – to reflect their identity, values and lifestyle.
In my work, I am guided primarily by an individual approach to each person who entrusts me with their living space. I strive for harmony between aesthetics and functionality. This is an important combination in my work. I make sure that the interiors I design are beautiful, comfortable and timeless! This is absolutely crucial.
I focus on attention to the smallest details. I take great pride in using high-quality materials and maintaining open communication with my clients. I believe that an interior should not only delight with its beauty, but above all serve the purpose of its users – be a space where they want to live, work and relax.
My projects combine modern design with elegance and responsibility for every component of the project, allowing me to create interiors that do not follow passing trends, but remain current and inspiring for years to come.
Do you have a favourite interior design style? If so, what kind?
I have a great understanding of different design styles and always listen to the needs of the people I work with. If my clients have specific aesthetic expectations, I create interiors for them in their chosen style – from modern minimalism to classic elegance.
For me personally, however, combining history with modernity is closest to my heart. I love the combination of classic architecture and contemporary premium furnishings. I find particular inspiration in the eclectic, pre-war townhouses of Szczecin. If original details have been retained in such spaces – stucco, woodwork – I try to highlight them. When they are damaged or non-existent, I create new stucco designs, always in plaster, giving the interiors an authentic and noble character. I often interfere with the structure, designing monumental doors or enlarging openings to bring out the full potential of the space.
It is in this style – in a dialogue between the old and the contemporary – that I can most fully express my interior design philosophy.
What materials and technologies do you most like to use in your projects?
I prefer to use natural and timeless materials, which guarantee not only an exceptional aesthetic effect, but also quality and comfort. For me, natural stone, wood and plaster stucco are the basis for creating an elegant and authentic interior atmosphere.
I love to combine them with modern materials such as glass and aluminium, which I use, for example, in the prestigious Schüco window joinery, as well as in built-ins or architectural details. This gives the interiors a light, airy and contemporary feel.
Innovative technological solutions are equally important to me – from smart home systems and energy-efficient joinery to advanced architectural lighting that allows you to shape the atmosphere of a space from moody to strictly functional.
My interior designs combine craftsmanship of the highest order with modernity, and the classic beauty of materials meets comfort and functionality to meet contemporary living standards.
What are your experiences of working with clients? What do you think is the key to a successful collaboration?
My over 25 years of experience have taught me that the key to successful cooperation – both with clients and subcontractors – is trust and mutual understanding. I always listen to the needs of my clients. Given the opportunity, I follow their lifestyle and ask numerous questions during initial meetings. All this to ensure that the interiors designed for them are not only beautiful, but above all, ‘tailor-made’ like a top-quality suit.
I pay great attention to transparent communication and guiding the client through the entire process – from the initial conversation, through the design, to turnkey implementation. As a result, my clients can feel secure and comfortable, knowing that every detail is under my control.
My clients value my responsibility, attention to detail and comprehensive services, which relieve them of the burden of coordinating construction work and technical decisions. I believe that it is precisely this combination of professionalism and genuine commitment that forms the foundation of relationships, which often develop into long-term cooperation and mutual recommendations, and sometimes even friendship.
Can you describe the most interesting project you have worked on?
One of the most interesting projects I have worked on was the modernisation of a residence near Poznań, carried out on a turnkey basis. It was a unique undertaking – a very demanding investor, premium interiors and a fast pace of work.
This is one of the projects where I acted as general designer and general contractor at the same time. For more than six months, I was on the project site for weeks at a time, returning to Szczecin only at weekends. I was responsible for every stage: from interior design and structural changes, through façade modernisation, to full logistics, orders and furnishings – largely from my commercial offer.
As early as the design stage, I decided to widen some windows, change the layout of the walls and the function of some rooms. Thanks to the consistent implementation of these concepts, the interiors – originally heavy and classic – have gained lightness and functionality. They became timeless.
This project was a big challenge for me, but also proof that determination, passion and experience make even the most challenging projects in the premium sector possible.
