A graduate of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Cracow University of Technology, with a portfolio of large office, commercial and residential interior design projects for international companies, she decided to go freelance several years ago! In 2014, Izabela Widomska – for she is the one in question – founded her own studio, specialising in eclectic interior design. What makes her work stand out is its extraordinary lightness and warmth, as well as her invigorating use of colour. And what does she say about her work?
From childhood passion to first independent projects – how did Izabela Widomska Wnętrza studio come into being?
Reflecting on the beginnings of her fascination with interior design, Izabela Widomska recalls the first international magazines in Poland, such as ‘Elle Decoration,’ which she leafed through, admiring the colourful, warm and eclectic spaces. Her love of this type of cosy arrangement has stayed with her to this day. However, before realising her dream of having her own studio, she gained a rich and extremely varied experience, working with international players on major projects.
The turning point came in 2014. After her maternity leave, the architect decided to try her hand at freelancing. By establishing her own studio, she wanted to have a greater influence on the style and quality of the interiors she created, as well as on the organisation of her work. For the first two years, she carried out projects mainly for friends and people on recommendation, gradually increasing her client base. Today, she has a plethora of unusual arrangements to her credit, and the investors who she works with emphasise that the interiors she creates are full of understanding for their lifestyles.
What values and outlook guide your design work? What are your priorities in creating interior designs?
My values as an interior designer are harmony, beauty and living well. My priority is that my designs deliver comfort, safety and warmth and are highly tailored to the users and the place where they will be used.
Do you have a favourite interior design style? If so, what kind?
Eclectic, warm, light and with vintage elements – this is how I would describe my style in a nutshell. I like incorporating the old with the new. I try to create bright spaces that are first and foremost tailored to the owner.
What materials and technologies do you most like to use in your projects?
I prefer to use natural materials, especially wood. I also often suggest quartz conglomerate or ceramics, as well as usable and easy-to-maintain wood-based materials.
What are your experiences of working with clients? What do you think is the key to a successful collaboration?
I enjoy working with clients who have taken the trouble to find out what kind of designer I am and who appreciate what my studio offers. This verification of the fit between my offer and the client’s needs and expectations makes for a good, balanced and trusting collaboration from the outset.
Can you describe the most interesting project you have worked on?
Completed in 2014, the project for our own two-storey flat was quite a challenge. In retrospect, I can say that I have created a really good and timeless interior that we still enjoy despite the years. Apart from the necessary touch-ups, we haven’t changed anything, and the flat is still beautiful.
