estimental has designed a 61-square-metre flat in Warsaw for fashion designer and MAU.MAU founder Michalina and her partner Kamil. From the first meeting, it was clear that imagination would play an important role in the project, and the finished interiors carry that idea through.
Surf-blue doors set the tone
The wavy forms surrounding the surf-blue doors catch the eye as soon as you enter the flat. The curves soften the corridor and give it a more relaxed character than a conventional hallway. Carefully placed mirrors each reflect a different part of the interior, making the small entrance area feel larger.

A Bubblegum ceramic wall light by Nodi Studio is mounted alongside sockets and switches with plywood faceplates by Switch Concept. Such details often go unnoticed in a home, but here they establish its character from the threshold and hint at what lies beyond.
A surf-blue kitchen with jewellery-like handles
The kitchen follows the flat’s overall palette, with smooth surf-blue cabinet fronts and Hvyt handles that act as subtle, almost jewellery-like accents. An engineered quartz worktop by Avant Quartz in the Aquitaine colourway is paired with white Equipe tiles from the La Riviera Blanc range.
An unusual cut-out in the tiled splashback is a small detail, but it makes the cabinetry appear lighter and gives it a clearer sense of separation from the wall. A SMEG coffee machine was chosen in a colour that echoes Michalina’s favourite shade, making the kitchen personal as well as practical for everyday use.

Surf blue, burgundy and muted pink in the bedroom
The bedroom has a different mood from the rest of the flat, with a carefully chosen palette of surf blue, deep burgundy and muted pink. The combination feels elegant, soft and more intimate than the other rooms. Mouldings, understated ceiling roses and a bespoke headboard give the room its decorative character. The headboard draws the composition together and underlines the attention to detail.

The room recalls boutique apartments in Paris, but the owners’ personal touches make it unique. A print of Mount Fuji brought back from Japan and ceramic figurines from Thailand are mementoes of their travels, rather than incidental decorations. These reminders are part of everyday life, giving the bedroom meaning through memories as well as colour and form.
Kamil’s study and a dimly lit bathroom
Kamil’s home office has a character of its own. Dark green and cherry wood encourage concentration, giving the room a more intimate, restrained feel. His favourite bicycle hangs above the desk. Although it could be mistaken for a decorative feature, it is an inventive response to a lack of space.

The bathroom takes another direction. The designers wanted a dimly lit atmosphere with a subtle connection to the bedroom’s warm colours, so the light was deliberately softened and the palette given deep, saturated tones.
The flat reveals much about its owners before they have said a word. Michalina and Kamil now have a home that is expressive yet carefully balanced, much like the brand Michalina is developing, with a clear identity and no excess or unnecessary flourishes.
